Obituary for Hazel Rose Quehl

Hazel Rose Quehl
Quehl, Hazel Rose

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Hazel Rose Quehl, at Freeport Hospital, on January 1st, 2012. Hazel faced her final days with courage and strength born of her faith, and departed peacefully with family by her side. She was in her 75th year.

Born November 2nd, 1937, in Kitchener, she was the daughter of the late Mary and Ezra Miske and was the loving wife of John Henry Quehl for over 51 years.

Hazel is lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Chris Woods of Kitchener; son and daughter-in-law, Steven Quehl and Sarah Greatrix of Elora; grandchildren, Zachary, Alyssa, and Nicole Woods of Kitchener; brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Wendy Miske of Cambridge, and many other cherished relatives and dear friends.

In addition to being a remarkable wife and mother, Hazel was a dedicated volunteer in her community. She worked with Sunnyside Home Auxiliary for over 20 years, was an active member and tireless volunteer at Hope Lutheran Church, and continuously offered her time to many other endeavours. Hazel loved cooking, literature, music, theatre, and caring for the ones she loved. Hazel’s sense of humour and kind spirit will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

We wish to express our sincere thanks to the nurses on the 6th floor of Grand River Hospital and the Union Terrace West 3rd floor nurses at Freeport Hospital for the special care they gave Hazel and the support offered to our family. We would also like to say a special thank you to Lynda Weber, who provided ongoing in-home care and friendship to Hazel, prior to her admittance to hospital.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 7th, 2012, at 2:00pm, at Hope Lutheran Church, 30 Shaftsbury Drive, Kitchener, ON. A time for visiting and sharing memories will follow the service on the lower level of the Church. Cremation has taken place. As expressions of sympathy, donations to either Hope Lutheran Church or the Parkinson’s Society of Canada would be greatly appreciated.

Arrangements entrusted to Henry Walser Funeral Home, Kitchener 519-749-8467.
