Margaret (Peg) Balfour,

On April 17, 2018, just shy of her 96th birthday, Peg Balfour departed this life, joining her parents, siblings and 2 sons David and Christopher Coyle in Heaven. At the time of her death, she lived at Spruce Lodge Nursing Home, Stratford. She leaves 2 daughters, Debbie (John) Jacques of Walkerton and Katie (Mark) Diotallevi of Stratford. Missed by grandchildren David (Mary Ann) Jacques, Rachel (Adam) Skillen, Stephanie (Zack) O'Krafka, Dante Diotallevi, Julia Diotallevi and 5 great-grandchildren. Lovingly remembered by niece Andrea Balfour, husband Nik Ward-Campbell, and nephews Derek (Pauline) Hoskin, Andrew (Mary Lou) Hoskin, nieceKatharine (Chuck) Hoskin Hunt and all their families. Also mourned by special cousins Balfour LeGresley and Charlotte Mickie.

Born April 25, 1922 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Peg was the daughter of Archdeacon C. W. Balfour and Katharine (Thorneloe) Balfour. A graduate of St. Hilda's College, U. of T., Peg trained as a teacher. She spent three years teaching English at Lakefield College School prior to marriage in 1949. Eventually, Peg returned to Sault Ste. Marie from 1965 – 87. There, she founded a nursery school for autistic and disabled children and became the first president of the Canadian branch of The Compassionate Friends which assists bereaved families, and began to follow her dream of writing. Peg published numerous books of poetry and fiction, winning awards and accolades for her work. A devoted mother and grandmother, she took pride in her family’s accomplishments.

Funeral to be held Sunday, May 13, 2 p.m. at St. George's of Forest Hill Anglican Church, 321 Fischer-Hallman Road, Kitchener, Ontario. Service followed by the burial of ashes in the Memorial Garden and a lunch in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, Peg requested donations be made to one of the following: Juvenile
Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF); the Alzheimer's Society of Canada; St. George's of Forest Hill Anglican Church. Funeral arrangement's entrusted to Henry Walser Funeral Home (507 Frederick St., Kitchener).
