Condolence: Honouring Jack Downey; Lindsey and Michael's opa. It may have been a few years since his passing, but I will never forget him. He was so well-educated and thoughtful person. I lucked out meeting him. Thank you for all the times that you took Lindsey and I swimming in your backyard and at the Waterloo rec centre. There are so many fond memories to look back on. I sure remember hearing a lot about Christmas memories at the Downey's with all the grandkids around the house every year. He truly touched and enrichened the lives of so many children and people. Thank you.

Condolence: Mr. Jack Downey is one of the many people that inspired me to become an educator. I am grateful that I was able to connect with Mr. Downey at the last St. John School reunion for a brief time and catch up. He was a true leader and a wonderful teacher. He gave us as students the feeling that we could do anything we put our minds to. His faith was immeasurable and incredibly contagious. He taught me to explore my faith journey and make it my own and this has carried me through my entire life. My thoughts and prayers I with your family and I thank you for sharing such a great man with all of us. He was a true gift to the world.

Condolence: Dearest Downey Family. Please let it be known that Mr Downey was by far one of the greatest influences in my life. But for everything he did for me, my greatest memory will be knowing that there are countless others who have a million stories such as I about a great man by the name of Mr Jack Downey.

Condolence: Dear Marjory and all of the Downey family,
It was with sadness that I read the news about the passing of your dear husband and father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Jack Downey. He was my Grade 8 teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes School, and the teacher - without a doubt - from whom I learned more about faith and family, about responsibility and priorities. He was a creative and generous teacher, sharing not only what was in the text, but about his own life. This prepared us better for our own lives. When I was serving as Pastor of St. Francis in Kitchener it was great to see Jack at Saturday morning Mass (as there were so few at that time), and it often gave us a chance to exchange a few words. I remember on day he took us, about a dozen Grade 8's (it was a 7 & 8 split) to Toronto in his station wagon. Some of us sat in the back facing one another, long before seat belts. We went to Queens Park and the Royal Ontario Museum - my first for both! How many teachers would have done that! That was the kind of teacher Jack Downey was! He was definitely with in the top few teachers of my twenty years as a student. May God grant him a peaceful reward for his faith-filled life and response to God's grace. I will keep him - and all of you - in my Masses and prayers. His life is now with the Risen Lord whom he loved and served! God bless you all!
Very Rev. Paul S. Voisin, C.R., Superior General of the Congregation of the Resurrection, Rome, Italy.
