Carnide, Joaquim Ferreira:
Passed away peacefully with family by his side, on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Freeport Campus of Grand River Hospital at the age of 75. Beloved husband of Maria for 49 years. Loving father of Lucilia, Delia (Kristian Shoemaker), and Nancy (Robert Linden). Proud Avô to Katie and Oliver. Much loved brother of Mavildia (the late Manuel), Manuel (Esmeralda), the late Maria José (the late Laurindo), the late José (Odete), and the late Emilia (the late Joaquim). Cherished brother-in-law of Mavildia (Luis). He will be fondly remembered by all of his nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the personal support workers who have helped care for him and enabled him to remain at home for so many years. They would also like to thank all of the nurses and doctors in the Palliative Care unit at Freeport - Grand River Hospital who cared for him in his last few weeks.
Joaquim's family will receive relatives and friends from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2017 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Prayers Friday 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. A private mass of Christian burial will be held, followed by interment at Woodland Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, the family would appreciate memorial donations be made to Dr. Anthony Lang's Movement Disorders Research and Dr. David Tang-Wai's Memory Disorders Research at Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation (TGWHF) at:
