Baum, Ernst (Ernie):
Passed away peacefully at Grand River Hospital, Kitchener, on Monday, December 11, 2017 with his loving wife Bernice by his side. After a valiant battle with cancer, in his 82nd year, Ernst is at peace with his Lord in heaven. Loving husband, partner and best friend of Bernice (nee Wiltse) for 59 years. Much loved and respected father of Bonnie and her husband Ron Leonhardt, and Sherry and her husband Rolfe Rosenau. Very proud and cherished grandfather to Terra (Davin) Campbell, Shawn (Megan) Leonhardt, Jake Rosenau, and Jennifer (Nick) Van Dyk. Ernst was thrilled to spend precious times with great-grandsons Nicholas and Bentley. Survived by his brother Oswald (Olga), sisters Ottie Stutz (the late Heinz) and Olga Vogel (the late Richard). Predeceased by his parents Leopold and Theresa Baum, and oldest brother Otto (Lilly). Ernie spent 35 years working for Lear Corporation in Kitchener where he was well liked and respected. Ernie was an avid fisherman and hunter who relished his time outdoors and loved sharing his experiences and memories with others. Special thank you to doctors Tsvetkova and Leonard for their compassion and ongoing efforts, all the caring nurses at Grand River Hospital for their care, smiles and warm blankets.
Ernie's family will receive relatives and friends from 2:45 p.m. - 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467, where a Memorial Service will be held at in the chapel of the Funeral Home at 4:00 pm. Private family interment at Woodland Cemetery, Kitchener. Private cremation has taken place.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or to Kitchener East Presbyterian Church would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
