The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Harold Shantz can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Condolences

Condolence From: Rev. Paul S. Voisin, C.R.
Condolence: Dear members of the Shantz family,
From 1997 to 2000 I was the Pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, serving the Catholic Hispanic Communities of Waterloo, Wellington and Brant counties. That is how I came to know your Dad and Grandfather. Harold Shantz was for many immigrant people the person who epitomized a welcoming nation. Harold worked tirelessly, compassionately, and sincerely with every person who wished to make Canada their home. He became the 'face' of Canada for so many of them. He continued to accompany the Hispanics after they were already well established and 'Canadian-ized', and they appreciated and cherished his sharing in our celebrations, programs and activities. He was always welcomed with affection and respect. Thus, it saddened me to hear of his passing. God has an abundant reward for him in heaven! May our faith in the resurrection of Jesus bring you all peace and consolation. Your Dad and Grandfather was a man of prayer and devotion, and his life in the Church was very important to him - part of the 'fuel' for his apostolic actions. May God bless you all! I have been keeping him in my prayers and Masses, and will continue to remember all of you.

Condolence: Mr Shantz was my teacher at both St Bernadette and Our Lady of Lourdes. Going through my 65 years of life I have often thought about him and the life skills that he taught me. He was the most influential teacher in my life and would just like to say thanks.

RIP Mr Shantz you deserve it.

Condolence: Mr. Shantz was my principal and teacher at St. Francis in Guelph. He was one of my favourite teachers as he inspired my love of reading.
I've thought of him often over the years and while I am saddened by his passing, I am so happy to read about his extraordinary life of giving. An exceptional man; may he rest in peace.

Condolence: Mr. Shantz was a wonderful man and a great teacher. He was my school principal from Kindergarten to my teacher in grade 6 at St. Francis. He taught me to stand up for myself and to never let anyone put me down. He was always there with an encouraging word and I will never forget him. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Condolence: Aunt Anne & Family
We are sorry to hear about Uncle Hap. One of the things I remember most about him was talking at the family reunions about his work with refugees and he was always quite interested to talk to our South American boys that stayed with us.
