Obituary for Elaine Margaret Schertzer (Schaefer)

Elaine Margaret Schertzer (Schaefer)
Schertzer, Elaine Margaret (Schaefer)
Passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of family on Saturday, February 18, 2017, just 20 days shy of her 70th birthday. Elaine found humour everywhere, despite her struggles with MS which she fought with every ounce of her strength. It robbed her of a rewarding career and some mobility, but could not diminish her joy. She adored her garden and the many family traditions which will be maintained by her loving husband George; daughter, Laurie Schertzer (Fred Duncan); son, Gary Schertzer (Shirley); and grandchildren, Macey and Stella Duncan, and Molly and Adam Schertzer. Dear sister of George Schaefer (Sandra), sister-in-law of Mike Schertzer (Shirley) and John Schertzer (Linda). Elaine is predeceased by her parents Albert and Margaret (nee Bender) Schaefer.
She will greatly miss all of her formidable opponents in Scrabble, euchre & dominoes.
Elaine's family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener 519-749-8467 and will continue from 10-10:45 a.m. at the Parkminster United Church on Thursday. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Parkminster United Church, 275 Erb St. E., Waterloo followed by a reception in the church hall. Cremation to follow.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Grand River Hospital Foundation or the MS Society would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home). Special thanks to the Nurses and Doctors I.C.U. Grand River Hospital for their marvellous and compassionate care.
