Condolence: I am one of the many people to have the opportunity to have worked with Sgt Rob Dynerowicz, “Dino” as he was commonly referred to both here, and in Afghanistan in 2010. Dino was the type of leader to seize the opportunity to mentor, as opposed to needlessly yelling at someone foaming at the mouth while never actually teaching them anything. When I got on the ground in Afghanistan I was full of ____ and vinegar; a “deployment immature” Trooper wanting to get out as soon as I could and “put work in.” Dino saw this and took me aside one day to talk about this with me. He told me that if I were to always look for this trouble there would be a day that trouble would come knocking at the door at such a level that I would not be able to comprehend. He told me that a quiet day was a good day, but of course to never let my guard down and do what needed to be done. I ultimately took his advice on the assumption that he had a plethora of experience to back this up, to include this not being his first trip to Afghanistan. Lesson learned, humbleness; This teaching became ever more relevant on May the 24th 2010, Rest in Peace Larry. Fast forward to when my old man sent me a set of old golf clubs in the mail to break up the monotony of things, Dino saw these and took an interest. There was a time when Mitch Freestone, our boss Sgt (then) Greg Townsend “Townie,” and Mark Sainsbury were smashing balls south out of our OP into the Registan desert. Mitch and Townie were very avid golfers, I am a hacker with the odd good round, and Dino would be lucky if he could hit the ball straight about 20 metres. At the end of the day when looking at this practice, we all had fun and we also developed a less than lethal use of force option. I am sharing this with you to reiterate my belief that we need to hold onto who a person is versus what happened to them. If Dino is anything like me, he would not want to be embelished as some sort of martyr, hero, but just a dude doing his thing to the best of his ability and being the good person that he is. It is natural to mourn, biologically ingrained in us if you will and I am not discounting this. I am reiterating that it is important to remember a person for who they are so that we can heal and move on; Not forgetting but just moving on. I speak of Dino in the present tense because like our other fallen he is always with us. I will be forever grateful for that lesson in humbleness that he taught me and I always try to use that in my life. Dino, Spoczywaj w pokoju mój przyjacielu. Dziękuję za to, czego mnie nauczyłeś. ~ H.A.F.F.
