Obituary for Andrew James Shackleton

Andrew James Shackleton
Shackleton, Andrew James
February 8, 1966 - May 9, 2017
Following a courageous battle with cancer, in peace, surrounded by his family, Andrew has sung his final note.
Forever love of Johanna Shackleton (formerly Greene), lovingly devoted and compassionate Dad of Maddison (Hayden) and Chelsey Shackleton and Jacob Greene. Ever loved and adored brother of Belinda Hazelwood (Cliff), Wendy Shackleton and Angela Shackleton. Amazing “big brother” and friend of Jimmy Ingram. Fun loving uncle of Miranda and Desirae Evans, Nelson and Haylee Payne, Ethan and Dawson Shackleton, Erin Longworth and Victoria Gagliardi. Great-Uncle of Ellianna Truong and Liam and Emily Payne. Dearest friend and co-conspirator of Ron Coulter (Janet). Andrew is predeceased by his Dad and Mom, John (2001) and Karen (2015) Shackleton, paternal and maternal grandparents, and Aunts Jewel and Genevieve.
Andrew spent his life in the pursuit of fun and adventure, bringing his infectious smile along with him, touching so many lives in the most wonderful way. Growing up he was actively involved in many community activities such as Sarnia Little Theatre, Big Brothers and various charity events. Andrew was an IT Manager at Maplesoft - a career he relished.
Andrew’s love of music began in his early childhood, growing up with Barbershop and Sweet Adeline song and harmony. His own joy of singing began in 2001 when he joined the Bluewater Chordsmen, Sarnia. He carried on to join Twin City Harmonizers (Kitchener-Waterloo) and Mega City Chorus (Toronto), rounding out his Barbershop career with Harbourtown Sound (Hamilton). In 2016 Andrew fulfilled a big bucket list item when he sang with his quartet “Spiffy” on Fall Convention stage. After fulfilling a considerable number of roles in both choruses and the district, Andrew was elected President of the Ontario District of the Barbershop Harmony Society in January 2017. “Harmony is Healing” began years ago as a conversation with a dear co-worker evolved into a support campaign and fundraiser for Neuroendocrine Cancer to a passionate philosophy that he brought with him everywhere.
So many wonderful and amazing people have been of great support and help during Andrew’s entire journey, and we have no sufficient words to thank you all enough. Most recently: London Hospital’s A-team: Dr. Welch, nurse Bonnie and Dr. Lock; the 6th floor staff at Grand River Hospital; and the wonderful staff at Hospice Wellington in Guelph. Arrangements entrusted to Henry Walser Funeral Home (519) 749-8467. Cremation has taken place.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to Sing Canada Harmony or Hospice Wellington would be greatly appreciated by Andrew’s family (cards available at the funeral home). Celebration of life/afterglow will be held at the Schwaben Club (1668 King St East Kitchener) on Monday, May 22 at 2:00 p.m. Private interment at a later date.
