Obituary for Margaret Mary Meyer (Hahn)

Margaret Mary Meyer (Hahn)
Meyer, Margaret Mary
After a full and rewarding life, our mother died peacefully on June 22, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness. The former Margaret Hahn born in 1925 was one of 13 children in Elmira to parents Leo and Margaret (Veitenheimer) Hahn.

Surrounded by the love of family and friends she has gone to rest with the Lord our God joining her husband Howard Charles Meyer (d. 1975) and son Paul (d.2011). Beloved mother of Christine, Jeffrey (Gail) and Father Peter Meyer, grandchildren Adam (Stephanie), Sean (Jessica) and Taryn and daughter-in-law Valerie Meyer. Only her youngest sibling, Bill Hahn (Joan), Elmira survives.

She looked forward to a profession but because of WW II she went to work at Merchants Rubber, Kitchener making bomb covers and gas masks. She married her long time sweetheart Howard Meyer in 1946 who started Meyer Industrial Distributors with his brother Dennis Meyer (Peggy) in 1951. Mom and Peggy performed clerical duties. Smart and strong she learned to be independent as a young widow with 2 teenagers still at home.

Mom had a strong faith and active in ministries at Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Michaels Churches, C.W.L., prayer groups and Birthright. She curled at the Granite Club and Westmount. She enjoyed a good game of bridge 2 to 3 times per week with many of her friends. She travelled the world and loved a road trip to Florida or last fall to the east coast. Summers were spent at the family cottage on Lake Huron. She was loving, kind, very generous, strong and courageous, had a great sense of humour and liked having fun with family and friends. A great role model for all who knew her.

The family is grateful for the exceptional professional care, delivered with kindness and compassion by the 7th floor medical team at St. Mary's Hospital including Dr. R. Upenieks, Helen Jarman and nurses Tracey, Tammy, Sunila, Krista, Hannah to name a few.

The Meyer family invite relatives and friends to Margaret’s visitation at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener, 519-749-8467 on Monday, June 26, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 with parish prayers at 8:30 pm Monday evening. Prayers will be offered in the funeral home chapel at 10:15 am on Tuesday, June 27th followed by procession to Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church, 173 Lourdes Street West, Waterloo for Funeral Mass at 11:00 am.
