Obituary for Margarete Sander (Kendl)

Margarete Sander (Kendl)
Sander, Margarete

It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Margarete Sander peacefully at home on January 21, 2018 at the age of 90.

Mom was predeceased by her parents Philip and Katharina Kendl, her brother Philip and her loving husband Jakob.

She leaves behind her daughters Renate (Raymond) and Heidi (John) and her sons Bernie (Jennifer) and Roland (Lee).

Dear Oma of Genevieve Sander (Nathan), Aaron Sander and Devin Sander; Crista (Chris Werby), Melissa (Nick Connor), Jeff MacDonald (fiancee Jessica Kalbfleisch), Isabel Kurceba and Nick Kurceba.

Great-grandmother of Isla and Clayton Werby, Hayden and Tara Connor and Margarete was looking forward to another great-grandchild to be born in March to Genevieve and Nathan.

Margarete came to Canada in 1951 with her husband and they soon made Kitchener their home. Mom devoted her life to her family and to more than 40 years of service to the woman's group and to her church. Her life of faith was a blessing to many and her published book ‘Walking with God’ is dedicated to the glory of God.

Margarete was a talented seamstress and fashion designer and during the last weeks of her life was still working on the Pfaff sewing machine that she brought to Canada when she first arrived. She was a gentle soul, a thoughtful listener and teacher and to many their best friend.

The family of Margarete will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM on Friday, January 26th and will continue on Saturday, January 27th from 9-9:45 AM at Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener 519-749-8467. The funeral service will take place at 10 AM on Saturday, January 27, 2018 in the chapel of the funeral home followed by a reception and sharing of memories. Interment Woodland Cemetery, Kitchener.

The family wishes to thank the exceptional staff at River Gardens for their kindness and care and to Pastor Art for his spiritual care.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to Stratford General Hospital Foundation, who's care of our mother was amazing during all the emergency visits and hospital stays or to Cystic Fibrosis Canada, that was close to mom's heart (cards may be placed at the funeral home or arranged by calling 519-749-8467).

"The Angels are always near to those who are grieving,
to whisper to them that their loved one is safe in the hands of God"
And my soul spread
Her wings wide,
Flew through the still land,
As if she was flying home.
