Obituary for Irene Inglis (Barclay)

Irene Inglis (Barclay)
Inglis, Irene (nee Barclay)
Passed away peacefully in her sleep at Sunnyside Home on Friday, February 16, 2018 at the age of 90.
Beloved wife of the late John (2008).
Loving mother of Ian Inglis (Alison nee Lopes).
Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Nigel (fiancee Valerie Siragusa) and Paige Inglis (Aaron Mazurek) and step-grandchildren Christina (Darren), Julie (Brad), Matthew and Lisa (Jamie) and step-great-grandchildren Josiah, Violet and Elena.
Dear sister of Stewart Barclay (Betty) and the late Helen Donaldson. Dear Aunt of Jacqueline Shantz (Paul), Stewart Barclay (Kelly) the late Bob Barclay (Wanda), Alexis Robertson (Alex), Gordon (Karen) the late Alan Black, and their families.
Predeceased by her parents John and Mary Barclay.
Irene was born in Glasgow, Scotland. Her mother was a nurse and her dad owned a bakery shop. Though her interests were varied, from sketching to piano playing, and love of her dogs, it was the art and magic of cooking that enticed her. Irene married John in Shettleson, Glasgow in 1940. They moved to London, and while John served as a London Bobby and then Scotland Yard, she became a Cordon Bleu Chef. In 1976, John and Irene moved back to their Homeland, Scotland where they operated The Schiehallion Hotel, in Dunblane.
In 1981, they left Scotland to join her brother Stewart in Canada. They opened a Scottish restaurant, named the Dunblane Restaurant and Salads Plus, with her sister Helen, in the King Centre.
Irene's family will receive relatives and friends from 4-5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener, 519-749-8467. The funeral service will take place in the chapel of the funeral home at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21st followed by a reception. Cremation has taken place.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to Juvenile Diabetes or KW Humane Society would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
Special thanks to the nursing staff and care givers at Sunnyside Home for all their care of Mum for the last 10 years.
