Hopf, Dorothea (nee Heinrichs)
With saddened hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother and Oma on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Barnswallow Place Care Community in Elmira at the age of 92.
Loving mother of Peter Hopf and his wife Sandy.
Cherished Oma of Lisa Hopf and Tina Geisel and her husband Darryl.
Dear great-grandmother of Justin and Aiden Geisel.
Predeceased by her husband Fred in 2013, her parents Marianne and Anton Heinrichs and three sisters Renate, Kaethe and Hanna and one brother Helmut, of Germany.
Born in Bremen, Germany, Dorothea and her son Peter immigrated to Canada in 1952, a year after her husband. Dorothea worked at Electrohome and was a long time member of the Concordia Club Ballroom Dance Group where she made many lifelong friends.
Thea or Dorothy, by all who knew her well, was a warm, humble and generous person, who would do anything for her family. Her passions were cooking, baking and sewing. Dorothea’s many talents, strength, resilience, strong work ethic and appreciation of her life’s accomplishments came from many of her early life’s war time struggles. She was the rock of our small family and will be deeply missed.
