Potwarka, Richard:
Passed away peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones on Friday, April 14th, 2017 at Schlegel Village at University Gates at the age of 71, after valiantly battling Parkinson's disease for 27 years.
Beloved husband of 40 years to Charlene.
Loving dad to Lucy (Brett) Wehrle, Jack (Angie) Potwarka and Luke (Melissa) Potwarka.
Cherished Grandpa to Andrew (Stephanie), Rachel, Chas, Jacob, A.J., Catherine, Evelyn and great-Grandpa to Nellie Rose.
Predeceased by his mother Catherine Potwarka.
Rich played for the Kitchener Dodgers and was a longtime coach for the Kitchener Minor Baseball Association; he was also a director of the Kitchener Panthers Baseball School.
Rich was one of the originating founders and champion of the Super Walk for Parkinson's (Kitchener-Waterloo chapter).
He began a long and faithful teaching career with the Waterloo Catholic District School board in 1969.
Rich was one of the first residents at Schlegel Village at University Gates, where he touched the hearts of many.
A genuine and compassionate thank you to all the staff and residents of Schlegel Village at University Gates for all the kind and tender care that was given to Rich and his family.
Rich's family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday April 18th, 2017 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Parish prayers will be offered at the funeral home on Tuesday evening at 8:45 pm.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament RC Church, 305 Laurentian Dr. Kitchener, on Wednesday, April 19th, 2017 at 10:30 am.
Burial at Williamsburg Cemetery.
Reception will follow the burial in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Parkinson Society Canada (Southwestern Ontario) or to Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging Foundation would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
