The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Harold Shantz can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Rev. Paul S. Voisin, C.R.

Dear members of the Shantz family, From 1997 to 2000 I was the Pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, serving the Catholic Hispanic Communities of Waterloo, Wellington and Brant counties. That is how I came to know your Dad and Grandfather. Harold Shantz was for many immigrant people the person who epitomized a welcoming nation. Harold worked tirelessly, compassionately, and sincerely with every person who wished to make Canada their home. He became the 'face' of Canada for so many of them. He continued to accompany the Hispanics after they were already well established and 'Canadian-ized', and they appreciated and cherished his sharing in our celebrations, programs and activities. He was always welcomed with affection and respect. Thus, it saddened me to hear of his passing. God has an abundant reward for him in heaven! May our faith in the resurrection of Jesus bring you all peace and consolation. Your Dad and Grandfather was a man of prayer and devotion, and his life in the Church was very important to him - part of the 'fuel' for his apostolic actions. May God bless you all! I have been keeping him in my prayers and Masses, and will continue to remember all of you. Rev. Paul S Voisin, C.R. Rector, St. Theresa's Cathedral, Hamilton, Bermuda
